" Whatever the guru teaches, it will add up to only quarter of that student's knowledge. A quarter he derives from his own personal interest, and from hard work; a quarter comes from God's blessing, and the final quarter comes in his old age from his own personal experience."

Kalarippayattu - Indian martial art

Kalarippayattu is a martial art from southern Indian state of Kerala. Practice consists of learning the movement sequences, bare hand fight and using different types of weapons (staffs, knives, sword, spear) and also breathing exercises. Regular practice of kalarippayattu improves flexibility, agility, coordination of the body and concentration of the mind, and most important it develops proper spiritual attitude. Physical training is compensated with the healing system closely connected to ayurveda, which offers knowledge about vital points of the body and massages (i.e. abhayanga) and understanding of the rituals accompanying training and fighting.

In the southern style (tekkan) the pressure is put on the movement sequences, which simulate fighting and all kinds of strengthening and stretching exercises. Next step is the knowledge of bare hand techniques using kicks, punches and grappling directed on the vital points of the body. The last part of training is practice with weapons.
